Making complex expertise accessible

Vreugdenhil Dairy Foods works daily with specialist knowledge about dairy, production, product quality and food safety. To transfer that knowledge in a consistent and accessible way, Maxcademy developed custom e-learning in which complex subject matter is translated into clear explanations, visual examples, interactive assignments and assessments.

Vreugdenhil is a Dutch family business that has been active in the dairy market since 1954. The company specializes in milk powder, has four production locations in the Netherlands and supplies food products and ingredients to customers in more than 130 countries. Within such a production environment, expertise, quality and food safety are inextricably linked.

The challenge for Maxcademy was therefore not to simply put existing information online. The content had to be transformed into a learning experience that guides employees step by step through specialist topics, without making the material unnecessarily complicated.

Custom e-learning that activates knowledge

Clear learning structure

Specialist content is reduced to logical learning steps, concrete learning objectives and manageable components.

Visual and interactive

A mix of explanations, video, images and interactive assignments keeps participants actively engaged with the learning material.

Checking knowledge

Knowledge checks and assessments help to review important topics and make it clear whether the learning objectives have been achieved.

From subject matter expertise to learning experience

The subject matter knowledge lies with the experts at Vreugdenhil. Maxcademy adds Learning Design: determining what a participant really needs to know or be able to do, structuring the content and then choosing how that knowledge can best be explained digitally.

Technical and subject matter topics are divided into manageable components. Long explanations are reduced to the essence, abstract information receives visual support where necessary and the participant is regularly asked to actively process the new knowledge.

This does not create a digital manual, but a learning experience with a clear structure: explanation, interaction, application, feedback and where necessary assessment.

Making food safety understandable and assessable

Food safety is an important part of working within an international dairy organisation. For Vreugdenhil, Maxcademy developed, among other things, e-learning in which employees are taken through the basic principles of hygiene and food safety in an accessible way.

In the training, explanations are alternated with visual learning content, interactive tasks and knowledge questions. Participants actively process the content rather than just reading it. The module concludes with an assessment to check whether the key knowledge has been sufficiently mastered.

Vreugdenhil describes on its own website that e-learning about food safety is part of the Vreugdenhil Academy and that such training for employees at production sites plays an important role in maintaining knowledge regarding certifications.

Scalable transfer of specialist knowledge

With the customised e-learning, Vreugdenhil has digital learning content that allows specialist knowledge to be offered in a structured and repeatable manner. The combination of Learning Design and Learning Development makes complex information accessible without losing sight of the substantive quality.

The learning solution:

  • makes complex subject knowledge understandable and clear;
  • presents information in a consistent manner;
  • combines explanation with active knowledge processing;
  • enables assessment where demonstrable knowledge is important;
  • visually and substantively aligns with the context of Vreugdenhil;
  • is suitable for offering digitally and repeatedly to employees.
